I want to thank everyone who has read, subscribed to, and commented on my articles lo these many months of Friday posts. I’m deeply grateful (and would be more so if you would continue spreading the word about SK).
Similar to Advent 2021, for Lent 2022 (which begins next week!), I’ll be postponing SK posting in favor of increased prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. As a trusted priest told me recently (light paraphrase), “Lent is simply an opportunity to live out the Greatest Commandment: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves (Mt. 22:34-40). Prayer is vertical in nature and gets at the first prong of the commandment. Along the horizontal axis, fasting is proper self-love, and almsgiving is love of neighbor. The three together form a cross, by and through which we find Christ.”
I’m planning to do various things for Lent, but one I would recommend to anyone is a practice of memento mori—remembering your death. A good death is not achieved by dumb luck; paradoxically, it is practiced for across the whole of one’s life.
Check it out here.
Know of my prayers for you. And please, if you can spare them, I would very much appreciate yours for me.
See you on the other side.
A wise decision, Deion. May this be a time of growth for you, and I will definitely keep you in my prayers.
I hope it will be a spiritually fruitful time for you, Deion! We'll miss your commentary.
